Cookie Policy

The three cookies

cr_session — an anonymous identifier created the first time you write a joke or cast a vote. It keeps your daily count, holds your seat in a Roast Night room, and lets jokes you wrote before registering be attached to your account afterwards. It lasts a year and is not readable by scripts.

cr_auth — set when you sign in, so the site knows it is you. It disappears when the session expires or you sign out.

cr_lang — remembers the language you chose by hand, so the site does not keep guessing from your browser.

All three are strictly necessary under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, which is why no consent banner is required for them.

Analytics without cookies

We measure how the site is used with PostHog, on its European infrastructure. It is configured to keep nothing on your device: no cookies, no local storage. Measurement lasts only as long as the page is open.

The consequence is deliberate: we can see that a page is confusing, and we cannot follow you from one visit to the next. That trade was made on purpose. It also means there is no banner standing between you and writing a joke.

No third-party tracking

There are no advertising cookies, no social network pixels, and no third-party trackers on this site.

Stripe sets its own cookies during payment, on Stripe's pages, for fraud prevention. That happens on their checkout, under their policy, and only if you subscribe.

Removing them

You can delete cookies at any time from your browser's settings. Delete cr_session and you lose the thread connecting anonymous jokes to a future account, and your place in any Roast Night in progress. Nothing else breaks.
